INFORMATION FOR NEW MEMBERS! BUY YOUR MEMBERSHIP ONLINE! AKA Gallery Incorporated offers a broad range of services to the community, starting with the exhibitions that we program. Some of the programs and services that you help to support as a member of AKA are: AKA's resource centre - the resource centre includes a thorough database compiling our collection of artist/exhibition catalogues, resource guides, video and slide documentation, and original artist books. We also have a book nook that allows visitors to take a seat and peruse not only our resource centre but our impressive collection of current art magazines, magazine archive, and postings. Contemporary programming - AKA's mandate is to support the growth and development of contemporary art. This includes supporting and programming experimental work, emerging artists, new media and performance art. AKA is one of a handful of organizations in Saskatchewan programming contemporary art and the only one in Saskatoon dedicated to programming contemporary art in all its forms! Special events - As adjunct programming to our regular exhibitions and events, AKA programs workshops, talks, and panel discussions. We also program special projects such as In Your Face, a bike-towed film and video festival, and more! Partnerships - Many of our programs are presented in partnership with other community-based organisations throughout the city, province and country, expanding our reach and audience base. AKA regularly works with other non-profits, schools and community groups in the delivery of our services. We lend the gallery out for special events, give talks to student groups, offer work placement opportunities and much more as a part of our commitment to working with the community. Hands-on help - We offer one on one consultations to assist artists in the development of exhibition proposals and grant-writing, as well as studio visits. Postings - Our regularly-updated bulletin boards contain information from other galleries and community groups across the country and around the world regarding job opportunities, calls for submissions, grant deadlines, and other opportunities as well as information about exhibitions and special programs
When you become a member of AKA Gallery, you are not only supporting the growth and development of contemporary art right here in Saskatoon, but the benefits you receive as a part of that community are plentiful! Some of the benefits you receive as a member of AKA include: Members spaces - One of the most exciting (and popular) benefits we offer is the members' space. During the summer months, and other times when there is no programming scheduled in the gallery space, AKA is turned over to our members for their use in one-week blocks. In return for 10 hours of volunteer time, members can use the space to document their work, as a studio space, or for a special project, presentation or event. Blocks are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis and sell out fast! Mailouts - As a member of AKA, you will receive our regular mailout that includes our newsletter, containing critical writing, information about upcoming programming and opportunities, as well as a special members' corner. The mailout also includes the Saskatoon Warehouse Artspace calendar, keeping you informed about what's happening throughout the building, invitations to upcoming events, and special announcements. Board opportunities - Any interested AKA member is eligible to sit on our board of directors. Board members help set the direction of our organization and take part in the planning and implementation of special projects. We also have a number of working committees chaired by members of our board. You don't have to be a board member to sit on a committee.
