AKA Gallery Submissions
Work submitted to AKA's annual March 1 deadline is reviewed by a jury of peers. This rotating jury is composed of 5 voting members: AKA's programming Coordinator, one younger/new or less experienced board member, one older, experienced or more established board member, and two non-board community representatives selected to ensure a balance of concerns is achieved. A new jury is selected annually by AKA's Programming Committee in consultation with our board of directors. Non-voting members may be asked or entitled to sit in on the jury as a learning tool or to assist in the process. Staff, board members and established volunteers often assist with juries. Artists submitting proposals are not entitled to sit on the jury. Current staff and board members are never entitled to submit proposals. Juries are briefed as to AKA's mandate and vision before the selection process to ensure they remain responsible to AKA's concerns while selecting high quality work. There are no selection quotas. Approximately 50% of AKA's programming is selected by this jury process.
Other programming is developed proactively by AKA's board, Programming
Committee and staff as governed by our directives (as outlined in our
organizational profile). Opportunities exist for curatorial projects to
be developed by our Programme Coordinator and members of our Programme
Committee, and we maintain several ongoing partnerships with like-minded
organizations that often result in programming activities. Proposals should include: 10 to 20 numbered images in slides or jpegs on CDrom. Include other audio/visual
support material as required Submit Proposals to: AKA has one deadline per year; March 1. AKA is committed to fostering the development of new and experimental work, so feel free to propose work in development or entirely different work from that which is shown in your support material. Just be clear in your project description what it is that you are proposing; that which we are seeing or something else. |
